Tracking numbers are essential tools for monitoring the status of your shipments. However, understanding how tracking systems work—and their limitations—can save you time and reduce confusion. This article explains how to use tracking numbers effectively, common issues to watch for, and how we help ensure your shipments are delivered to the correct location.
Understand the Lifecycle of a Tracking Number
Temporary Nature: Tracking numbers are temporary and often reused by carriers after a certain period. If you're searching for older tracking information, the number may display unrelated shipment details.
Action: Always monitor your shipment in real-time and save relevant details (like delivery dates) for reference before the tracking number is retired.
Verify Information Regularly
Check carrier websites for updates using the tracking number. Delivery statuses, transit points, and delays are frequently updated.
Tip: Use carrier apps or enable email notifications for instant updates.
Be Aware of “Delivered” Status Limitations
Delivered ≠ Correct Location: Carriers may mark an item as "delivered" even if it was left at the wrong address or a neighboring location.
Action: Remember that only we can confirm that your shipment was delivered to our facility. Our system will notify you as soon as we process the item.
Retain the Label or Receipt
Keep a copy of the shipping label or receipt until the item is confirmed as received by us. These documents may include the carrier and tracking number needed for claims or troubleshooting.
Resolve Issues Promptly
If tracking shows “delivered” but no notification is received from us, contact our support team. We can investigate further and determine if the shipment has reached our facility.
Reused Tracking Numbers: If tracking history seems unrelated to your shipment, verify the shipment date or contact the carrier for clarification.
Lost Shipments: If tracking stops updating or the shipment cannot be located, reach out to us and the carrier for assistance.
Delivery Scans at the Wrong Location: Occasionally, items are scanned as delivered even if delivered to an incorrect address. Only we can confirm delivery! If item has not been marked as delivered or Received by us a few days after the Carrier says it was delivered, contact the Seller immediately saying that you have NOT received the Package even though it says it was delivered for them to investigate with the carrier.
What to Do If Your Shipment is Lost or Delayed
Q: Why does my tracking number show an unrelated shipment?
A: Tracking numbers are often reused by carriers. If you encounter this issue, confirm the shipment date and other details to ensure accuracy.
Q: My shipment says “delivered,” but I haven’t received a notification from Easy Book Prep. Why?
A: Carriers may mark a package as delivered, even if it was delivered to the wrong location. Only we can confirm delivery to our facility.
Q: What if tracking shows no updates for several days?
A: Delays can occur, especially during peak shipping times. Contact the carrier for details, and let us know so we can assist with locating the shipment.
